Current Mood: amused

I rarely take the time to rec fics, and that's mainly due to the fact that I rarely read anything these days that's not already on a rec list/site. I just don't have the energy to wade through the piles of fangirl crap like I use to (or maybe it's that I lack the patience to do so). However, having read two excellent TW fics back to back, I'm inspired to give them a shout out.

Firstly, I came across Time Has Set Its Maggot by Cyus. This is a short little piece with an insight in Ianto's background Pre-Torchwood Three. It's an example of phenomenal writing. I love word-crafters, the writers who absolutely weave language into the most intricate, beautiful, haunting patterns of imagery. It's bitter and harsh like its winter setting, but is so satisfying a read. Someone's English teacher deserves a fruitbasket.

Secondly, we have Seven Days That Shook Captain Jack's Pants by Redscharlach. I normally bypass crack-fic. As I stated in my comment to the author, most crack-fic is either a poor attempt at being funny and lacking all the cleverness, or is very clever but not really funny. This piece is not only very clever, it's goddamn hysterical. I love a good laugh, but I rarely laugh out loud on my own (I always do better in a group chortle). This one had me gasping and weeping...and that's my favorite kind of laugh.

So that's my shout out to my TW homeys works o' awesomeness. Whoop Whoop. This Bud's for you!

Jan. 10th, 2009 @ 12:19 am Snupin 2008 round-up!
Whoop, whoop, I participated in Snupin Santa 2008. Now that the master list has been posted, I can reveal my entry for the lovely athenkat: Pith and Resin .

Also, I was hot-recced Wednesday on Daily Snitch. Woot! I haz interwebs fame again!

Though I cut it down to the wire this year(And thank you, Snusa mods, for your patience), I had a blast. I heart the Snupin com. The Snupin peeps are such a diverse, supportive group, but soooo not on the wank train. And in the HP fandom, that's quite a feat. We should all thank the mighty spaghetti monster that we are not recurrent offenders of fandom_wank.

I know I've sort of fallen off the Snupin wagon this past year for all that is Janto and Torchwood, but rock on Snupin! Rock on!

Also, I wrote my first ever drabble for the Snape Birthday fest over on lupin_snape

You know what? Drabbles are hard. I did not possess the art and science that is beauty in 100 words or less, so it was more of a dribble. Still...um...Happy Birthday, Snape!

Whoohoo! So, as I mentioned over at my LJ, I participated for the first time in Snupin Santa this year, and with the big reveal on Saturday, I can finally post the link to my story:

How It Happened

I do beg pardon for some errors in the text. Since I'm a horrible procrastinator, I had a hasty beta job, which left a few...well, embarrassing errors (or at least they were embarrassing for me, being the child of an English teacher). I'm going to give it a once over and hopefully get a second pair of eyes on it for a much needed polish. Still, I'm quite proud. After ten years of reading fic, this was my first posting. I've always threatened to unleash my fan talents onto the world, but I finally did it. Go me! And I even got hot-recced at the Daily Snitch. But most of all, I had fun and was quite pleased to receive some lovely feedback from prolific HP ficcers whose works I greatly admire. I think I just might be inspired to write more Snupin. Maybe I'll add it to my list of New Year's resolutions.

Also, I had some absolutely fun fics written for me:

Waiting for the Answer by Innerslytherin

and

Culture Shock by Jassanja.

But I do feel the holiday let down. Reading so much fic over the holiday season has made me quite spoiled. I'm not ready for Snupin to slow down yet.
